Metal is required for the construction of buildings and furniture. Metal supplies occur naturally as mineral ore. The mineral ore is underground and must be extracted for processing. Gangue is an impurity found in mined ore.

During the processing of mineral ore, the true metal supply is extracted. To extract the metal supply from the ore, various processing methods are used.

2 Metal Supply Processing Methods

This article discusses three methods of producing metal supply. Smelting, casting, and mining are examples of these methods.

1. Metal smelting:-

It is the process of obtaining a metal supply from its ore. To extract the metal supply from the ore, the ore is heated beyond the melting point and a reducing agent such as coke is added. Smelting is typically done in a blast furnace, and the following process of extracting iron or metal supply from iron ore is described:

  • A reducing agent, such as coke, is added to the ore to remove these impurities. To melt the ore and remove the impurities, extremely high temperatures are used.
  • The metal supply is produced in molten form, while the impurities are produced as slag. The blast furnace produces pure iron, which has poor physical, magnetic, and electrical properties.

2. The Casting:-

Casting is the process of pouring a liquid material into a mold that contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape and then allowing it to solidify. To complete the process, the solidified part, also known as a casting, is ejected or broken out of the mold.

Metal availability One of the most common casting processes is casting. Metal supply patterns are more expensive, but they are more stable and long-lasting.

When large quantities of castings must be produced repeatedly, a metal supply pattern is used. Casting can be done in a variety of ways. Pressure die casting, chill casting, investment casting, and sand casting are examples of these.
