How Much Does Split AC Installation Cost?
In warmer climes, central air conditioning is excellent, but not all homes are constructed to accommodate it. It takes a lot of ducting for a central air conditioning system to distribute air throughout the house, and installing ductwork in a home that wasn’t designed for it can be expensive, if not impossible.
A split air conditioner, often known as a ductless air conditioner system, offers whole-home cooling for about half the price of a central air conditioning system. Small or moderately air-conditioned dwellings typically benefit from it the most. This article covers typical split air conditioning installation prices.
Cost of Split AC Installation on average
Installation of a ductless mini-split air conditioner typically costs between $3,000 and $9,000. A single-zone AC system can cost as little as $600 or as much as $20,000 for a multi-zone, whole-home system. It costs $300–$6,000 more to install if an HVAC contractor is used.
The main variables that impact installation costs are listed below:
- Number of units: The majority of homes need one unit for each room. Your system cost increases with the number of indoor units you have. Installing more units also results in increased labour costs.
- Type of Components: The cost of indoor units might vary depending on the model.
- Size of unit: More powerful air conditioners are more expensive.
How an AC Split System Operates
A split air conditioning system features an indoor and an outdoor component, with refrigerant lines connecting the two, similar to a central air conditioning system. An evaporator in the indoor component removes heat from the air, and a blower circulates cooled air into the space. Copper tubing is used to transport the warm, gaseous refrigerant to the outside unit, commonly known as the condenser. There, the compressor transforms the refrigerant into a liquid, allowing fans to help exhaust heat outside while also bringing cool air inside.
In contrast to central air conditioning, which circulates cool air throughout the entire house, split air conditioning cools the air locally at each indoor unit. Additionally, this provides the choice of various temperature settings in various rooms. Due to its larger condenser system than window units, a ductless mini-split system may deliver more cool air. In order to deliver warm air in the winter without the use of ducts or radiators, a mini-split also incorporates a heat pump.
